Podcast: 10.04 Thursday Breakfast Jam

Thanks to a combination of laziness and faulty CD recording, it’s been a while since I’ve podcasted. Well, here you go.

Don’t forget who loves you, bitches. (Especially next week, when it’s Radiothon, KRCL’s fall pledge drive.)

Playlist here.

Podcast: Thursday Breakfast Jam with Atherton live in studio

Unfortunately, the CD burner pulled the same shit yesterday morning as last week—it recorded 79 minutes and then reported a disc error. Awesome.

Fortunately, it was the first disc that was FUBAR’d and the Atherton live in-studio was recorded on the second. Awesome.

And they were just that… awesome. So, enjoy the second disc worth of downloads and some shorter Atherton mp3s.

Yesterday’s playlist available here.

Be sure to check out the Atherton CD release show tonight (Friday) at the Post Theater in the Fort Douglas complex at the University of Utah.

Another event worth mentioning is Utah Wilderness Day, featuring Greg Brown, on Tuesday, August 7. Should be a lot of fun and very educational. Plus, I’ll be in the KRCL tent, so stop by and say hello.

Podcasts galore

Libbie Linton

Lots of catching up to do! Posted below you’ll find the last three (3!) Thursday Breakfast Jams. Last week, 6.21.2007, local singer/songwriters Paul Jacobsen and Libbie Linton joined us in the studio, and for your listening convenience, I’ve also provided mp3s of their songs.

Paul Jacobsen

Playlists available here, here and here, respectively.

Next week, I’ll be in the Scion from Zion on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest. The plan is Boise, Portland and Seattle. Got a trip recommendation? Let me know!

At any rate, I won’t be manning the board next Thursday morning. I will be, however, leaving you in the very capable hands of former Monday Drivetime hostess, Sabra. Seriously, you’re gonna enjoy it.

Word.

Podcast: 6.7.007 Thursday Breakfast Jam with Kid Theodore

Pretty fun show, but it did feel a bit rushed. Playlist available here.

Today, we were joined in-studio by Austin and Ryan, two members of Kid Theodore. Kid Theodore releases its first full-length record, Hello Rainey, tomorrow. To pick up a copy, check out a CD release show at Kilby Court, visit the band’s Myspace, or swing by Slowtrain.

Next week, we’ll be joined by some more ladies from the Salt City Derby Girls. They’ll be talking about the June 16 bout, the Sisters of No Mercy vs. the Bomber Babes.

Stay loose,
-D

Podcast: 5.31.2007 Thursday Breakfast Jam

Bit of a last minute trip last week, so no podcast a'coming for 5.24. Big thanks to Kristina and Emily for filling in.

This week, I was back in the saddle. Or on-air booth. Playlist available here.

In studio next week, Salt Lake's Kid Theodore

Next week, we'll have a live, in-studio performance from Kid Theodore, who get set to release their record, Hello Rainey. They'll also be having a CD release party/show at Kilby Court next Friday, June 8.

In other news, I shaved el beardo and am rocking the handlebars. Here's a photo:

Actually, that's my role model--the sometimes big league back-up catcher, sometimes minor-league-backstop, always ruggedly handsome--Sal Fasano.

Podcast: 5.17 Thursdahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.y Breakfast Jam, featuring a live performance from The Mollies, plus the Salt City Derby Girls

Plenty of screw-ups this morning, including a couple of iPod malfunctions and a full-on iPod meltdown, but it was so busy and such a fun show, I didn’t have time to worry about it.

Battle Bunny and Danger Wheels Robinson, two members of the Salt City Derby Girls, were in during the 7:00 hour to discus this Saturday’s bout. The Leave it to Cleavers are taking on the Death Dealers. Should be fun.

The Mollies perform tonight, Kilby Court, 7:30

Then, during the 8:00 hour, The Mollies joined me in studio with a long list of instruments. KRCL being a volunteer organization and all, it’s tough to get a sound engineer out of bed (even for primetime programming during the morning drivetime). So, instead of setting this trio up in the sound studio, we ran it all acoustic through the vocal microphones in the on-air studio.

It was challenging, as the studio only has three mics—including mine—so I shared one with Vivian, the cellist. She used my flip-flop to steady the base of her cello and I had to suck in the gut to steer clear of hew bow while she played. Ah, professionalism!

You can check them out tonight at Kilby Court at 7:30.

Today's playlist available here.

Today's Podcast: one half of a craptacular Thursday Breakfast Jam

Page France perform live tonight at Kilby Court.

Bit of a rugged broadcast this morning. My apologies go out to you, especially if you tried to bare with it and listen anyway.

What was wrong? Good question, and I don't know the exact answer. I'm no sound engineer, after all. Luckily, we do have a very good sound engineer and he was able to correct the problem, so it shouldn't be something you have to deal with again.

To make things even more fun, after 79 minutes of recording, the CD recorder opted to spit out the first disc blank. So, we've only got the second half of the program available for download.

Still, it was a fun program with some good music. Playlist available here.

Thanks and get your wallets ready… Radiothon's only a couple week's out.

Podcast: 3.22.2007 Thursday Breakfast Jam

Laura Gibson

This morning's show.

I'd have to say that my favorite part, which came after the second disc was full (and you wouldn't be able to see it anyway, since these are MP3s, not video files), was when the DJ following me shook her head at my antics of putting the studio speakers to full tilt and rocking out to Dinosaur Jr.

She shakes her head a lot.

Playlist for the show is here. Don't forget to visit the show online at myspace.com/breakfastjam. It's also worth mentioning that Laura Gibson and the Band of Annuals will be performing live tomorrow night at Slow Train Music (221 E. Broadway, SLC) tomorrow at 8pm. Be there or be square.

How are your phone skills?

If you’re a regular KRCL listener, then you probably already know that Radiothon is right around the corner. In fact, we’re already accepting wed pledges for Prethon.

Anyway, I’m in need of a few people that would be willing to come down and answer some phones during my Radiothon show, April 12 from 6 to 9 AM. You probably have questions, so here’s a conversation that you and I might have on this subject. You're in bold:

Wait a minute! Wait just a GD minute! 6 to 9 AM? That’s early! And three hours!

You’re correct. It is early, but you wouldn’t have to be there right at 6:00—although that would be especially lovely—and you certainly don’t have to be there for all three hours. If you drive to work, perhaps you could just plan on waking up a bit early and answering phones for 30 minutes or so.

Well, what exactly would I have to do?

It’s pretty simple, really. Hopefully, people will be calling to pledge their support to the Thursday Breakfast Jam. While hugs and kisses and love are all nice, this is America, so we’re hoping listener support will come through in the form of monetary pledges. When a listener calls, you answer the phone cordially and walk him or her through a pledge form, writing all pertinent information legibly. Each phone call generally lasts somewhere between 30 seconds and two minutes.

What’s in it for me?

You selfish bastard. No, seriously, I understand. It’s asking a lot to get you out of bed. Well, you’ll get to hang out at a real life radio station, which is pretty rad in and of itself; meet some interesting people (read: weirdos); enjoy a free, unhealthy breakfast; and lastly, not feel guilty about providing no financial support to the station, although I will undoubtedly ask for your pledge, too.

It’s fun and hectic and silly. Will you help? If so, please let me know when you plan to be at the station (located at 1971 West North Temple) and for how long. Thanks so much.

A little late, but what can you do? It’s been crazy times at work and the weather’s been so lovely here in Salt Lake that when I’m not working, I don’t want to be near a computadora. There’s my excuse.

Sometimes, one MySpace profile just isn't enough

As mentioned in a previous post, it's an interesting time for KRCL. Bottom line, we're looking to increase listenership. I figured being a little proactive and tapping into the social networking wouldn't hurt. So, Thursday Breakfast Jam now has its own MySpace profile.

Check it out, listen to the promos, and by all means, be its friend. Then, feel free to let the rest of your MySpace crew know. "Listen, dammit."

Also, if anyone can help me figure out how the hell to get the comments moved up and right, let me know.

Thanks.
